{"id":405,"date":"2012-06-29T08:53:33","date_gmt":"2012-06-29T08:53:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.overlandrover-westafrica.net\/?p=405"},"modified":"2014-03-29T17:51:23","modified_gmt":"2014-03-29T17:51:23","slug":"day-3-and-4-hiking-in-kpalime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.overlandrover-westafrica.net\/?p=405","title":{"rendered":"Day 3 and 4 Hiking in Kpalime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We hired a guide out of the Geyser Motel where we camped last night.\u00c2\u00a0 After breakfast Jean-Baptiste (<em>gee-bay) <\/em>\u00c2\u00a0took us down a couple of gorgeous hiking trails.\u00c2\u00a0 The first was a 3 hour circle through\u00c2\u00a0 crops including coffee, cocoa, yam and cassava, past some charming villages.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 We are so glad to be out of smoky Accra and breathe fresh air.\u00c2\u00a0 The second trail was into a waterfall\u00c2\u00a0 on Mount Klouto, the highest peak in the region, where we were able to get wet and cool off.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_408\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.overlandrover-westafrica.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Kpalime-Greenery1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-408\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-408\" title=\"Kpalime Greenery\" src=\"http:\/\/www.overlandrover-westafrica.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Kpalime-Greenery1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.overlandrover-westafrica.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Kpalime-Greenery1-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.overlandrover-westafrica.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Kpalime-Greenery1.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-408\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kpalime Greenery<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Tuesday is market day in Kpalime so we went back into town in the afternoon and had the mud washed off the Land Rover while we wandered about through the shops.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 As it turns out we were in the <em>petit marche, <\/em>the main market is at the other end of town entirely, but it was still fun.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 There seem to be a relatively high proportion of muslim merchants, we bought a CD of contemporary Togolese\u00c2\u00a0 music\u00c2\u00a0 (hip-life we think, but don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t really know) and an umbrella.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_409\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.overlandrover-westafrica.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Kpalime-Market-Day1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-409\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-409\" title=\"Kpalime Market Day\" src=\"http:\/\/www.overlandrover-westafrica.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Kpalime-Market-Day1-300x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.overlandrover-westafrica.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Kpalime-Market-Day1-300x240.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.overlandrover-westafrica.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Kpalime-Market-Day1.jpg 338w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-409\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kpalime Market Day<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Late afternoon we headed back for Mt.
